What those lists do not hold
A good many businesses in this county are not in any directory.
The shop with a hand-lettered sign at the end of a lane. The greenhouse that opens in April. The man who does small engine repair out of a building behind his house, whose customers all know where it is and who has never needed a website.
Those are not fringe cases here. In parts of this county they are the ordinary way of doing business, and no list holds them because no list was ever meant to.
