What we collect

This site sets no cookies and runs no advertising. We count how many people read each piece. Past that, nothing about you is collected unless you type it into a form and press the button. What follows is the whole of it.

The Gazette is a set of files. There is no database, no login, no account, and nothing that follows you between pages.

There are nine of them. Eight are at Submit and one is at Contact. What each asks for is on its face, and most ask for a name and an email so we can come back with a question.

They are delivered by a company called Formspree, which passes what you type to an email inbox. Formspree holds it on their servers to do that, under their terms rather than ours.

The email field on every one of them says we do not add you to anything, and that is true. The newsletter is a separate box beside it, unchecked, on every form that takes an address. We have never pre checked it and we never will.

If you sign up for the Gazette email, your address goes to a company called Klaviyo, which is where the list lives. We send them the address and a note saying it came from this site. Nothing else.

Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and it works.

We count how many people read each piece. Vercel, who serve the site, do that for us. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your machine, and it tells us that a piece was read, not who read it.

The counter can be made to set one. We have not turned that on, and nothing on this site asks it to.

We do it because a county history site with no idea whether anybody is reading it is hard to keep going.

The support page hands you to Stripe. Stripe takes the payment and this site never sees a card number, a billing address, or a name unless you also write to us.

The site is served by Vercel. Like any web server, theirs records the address your request came from and what browser made it. That happens before any of our code runs and we cannot turn it off.

This page describes the site as it is on 7 September 2026. If we add anything that watches how the site is used, this page changes on the day it ships and says what changed.
